The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines "affordable housing" as monthly mortgage or rent payments costing no more than 30 percent of a household's gross income. An alarming 34% of Dallas homeowners are spending over 30% of their gross income to pay their mortgage and other homeownership-related expenses. Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity alleviates the housing burden placed on low-income families by offering them an innovative model to own a quality home with affordable 0% interest loans. Habitat homes are financed by generous donations from community supporters and largely built by the partner Habitat family with dedicated volunteers. C
