We build healthy and diverse communities by: - Advocating for, managing and funding organic community gardens, urban farms and green spaces - Providing educational opportunities for growing, sharing and preparing food - Acquiring and holding land for organic community gardens, urban farms and green spaces.

At the time of this writing there are over 26,000 children attending San Diego County schools who have been identified as food insecure, meaning they don't know where their next meal will come. Their primary source of nutrition is the school cafeteria food they receive Monday through Friday. Many of them have nothing of nutritional value to eat on the weekends. Our mission is to provide weekend meals to children with the inability to thrive due to lack of nutritious food in their homes. We do this by filling backpacks full of nutritious food for these children to take home on the weekends. Each backpack contains 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2 dinners, and a few healthy snacks, enough meals to sustain them through Saturday and Sunday.

MADRE's mission is to advance women's human rights by meeting urgent needs in communities and building lasting solutions to the crises women face. MADRE works towards a world in which all people enjoy the fullest range of individual and collective human rights; in which resources are shared equitably and sustainably; in which women participate effectively in all aspects of society; and in which people have a meaningful say in policies that affect their lives. Working with local grassroots charities and NGOs in 13 countries across the globe, the Global Vision International (GVI) Charitable Trust manages and raises funds for numerous long-term programs. These funds are used to support our local partners with the aims of alleviating poverty, illiteracy, environmental degradation and climate change. We do this through education, nutrition, conservation and capacity building. Our work focuses upon 3 key objectives: awareness, impact and empowerment. To help impoverished children succeed in life. We enable children to access schools and we help them to stay there, by paying fees, teaching life skills, providing counseling when problems arise, providing medical help when needed and making sure every child has at least one square meal every day. We provide both formal education and technical training for children who would otherwise suffer hunger, disease and permanent poverty.

Self-Help International (SHI) devotes its efforts to alleviating world hunger and poverty by providing opportunities to rural citizens that ultimately lead to self-reliance. Since its inception, Self-Help has served as a vessel; training, education, and opportunities are provided to rural citizens and whole communities in developing countries so that they can have better lives. MISSION STATEMENT: To alleviate hunger by helping people help themselves. SELF-HELP'S INITIATIVE Educate: We educate the people of the United States to understand the problems of life in developing countries particularly the awareness of the perpetual struggle by millions to produce and distribute food to battle persistent chronic hunger and poverty; we help tell their story Train: We train people in developing countries in the use of Quality Protein Maize (QPM). This increases crop yields and improves nutrition. We assist local farm families with planting, Improve: We improve infant and pre-school children's diets by administering an improved porridge feeding program. Made from QPM and pinches of barley malt, this combination has been proven to alleviate malnutrition, thwart sickness, and keep children in school so they can continue their education. Empower: We provide micro-credit loans for women to start small scale businesses. This availability of credit empowers women and increases their income - because they do not have access to traditional financing. Cooperate: We cooperate with other organizations and agencies in the introduction of appropriate farming practices or advancement in the battle against poverty and malnutrition.

NicaWorks! seeks to help impoverished Nicaraguans break out of the cycle of intergenerational poverty into which they were born by providing, or increasing, access to education, healthcare, food security, vocational training, leadership development, and youth mentoring with a special focus on children, at-risk teens and adults, and single mothers. Nicaragua is the second-poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
