The Center for Coastal Studies conducts scientific research with emphasis on marine mammals of the western North Atlantic and on the coastal and marine habitats and resources of the Gulf of Maine. We promote stewardship of coastal and marine ecosystems and conduct educational activities that encourage responsible use and conservation. We collaborate with other institutions and individuals whenever possible to advance our mission.

TO PRESERVE GEOLOGIC MAPS AND CROSS SECTIONS, DIGITIZING THEM SO THAT THEY CAN BE PRESERVED IN THE GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION SYSTEM (GIS) FILES AND MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC VIA THE FOUNDATION'S WEB SITE.

AHS fulfills its mission through educational programming, The American Gardener magazine, Great American Gardeners Awards, the AHS Garden Network, National Children & Youth Garden Symposium, Travel Study Program, and exemplary gardens at our national headquarters, River Farm. SeaWeb was founded to address the lack of public engagement on ocean issues, and works to reverse this trend by enabling key decision-makers to better understand the complexities of important marine environmental problems. In addition, our social marketing techniques enable the marine conservation community to effectively communicate sound solutions to these problems - another vital aspect of our unique approach to solving critical conservation questions.
