Leymah Gbowee is best known as the extraordinary woman who launched a powerful movement of thousands of women-from 16 different ethnic groups, across religious divides-to end Liberia's bloody civil war. Back in 1999, when the country, after a brief period of calm, was thrown once again into chaos, when women and children faced unprecedented levels of cruelty and displacement, when a quarter of a million people died and many more fled, and when the economic, political and educational systems threatened to completely collapse, the network of Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace took matters into their own hands. Boldly, the women marched in the streets; clamored for the deployment of foreign peacekeepers; demanded a ceasefire; spoke passionately in public forums; held pray-ins, sit-ins and a sex strike; demanded the resumption of peace talks when they stalled; and blockaded the peace talks with their bodies, forcing warlords to negotiate. With those actions, the women achieved the impossible without a single shot. They ended Liberia's civil war, deposing the nation's notorious leader Charles Taylor, ushering in a hopeful new period of democratic self-governance, and paving the way for the election of Liberia-and Africa's-first female president. But that was not the end of the story; in fact, it was the beginning. As history attests, peace is not a moment; it is a process. Building a lasting peace demands recognizing the importance of the empowerment and participation of women; that, in turn, demands ensuring that women and girls have access to education for life and leadership. It has been and remains the dream of Leymah Gbowee- awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011 for her work in ending Liberia's civil war-to see women and girls empowered in Liberia, throughout West Africa, and worldwide to realize their own dreams and work confidently towards humanity's shared dream of peace and security. She believes that journey to sustainable peace must begin with girls' education. A major step towards achieving that goal came in 2012 when Gbowee founded the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa in Liberia. With offices in the capital city, Monrovia, GPFA is Liberia's leading grassroots, community-based organization dedicated to building sustainable peace in that country and throughout West Africa. It is focused on girls' education, women's empowerment, sustaining the peace, and ensuring security that goes beyond freedom from violence and war to encompass all aspects of human security-for food, health, environmental, personal, political and community security. In the short years since Leymah Gbowee founded the Gbowee Peace Foundation Africa in Liberia, we have seen how eager Liberia's girls are to take advantage of the opportunity to follow their own dreams and help to make the dreams of their families and their communities come true. Today, GPFA is the leading grassroots, community-based organization in Liberia dedicated to building sustainable peace, increasing access to education for women and girls and supporting their full and active participation in the economic, social and political life of the country. GPFA achieves its goals through a comprehensive program of scholarships, mentoring, internships, leadership development and community-building activities.

Love Story Foundation is a charity aimed at meeting the needs of the community in Port Elizabeth. We have a desire to be involved in community upliftment and development and would like to start a culture of "giving back to the community" amongst the public of this region. Our projects include feeding schemes for the homeless and destitute, early childhood development programmes in underprivileged schools and distribution of food parcels and clothing to those in need. We have a desire and passion to expand such projects and move into other areas requiring development nationally. Our Vision: to meet needs, to show love, to spread love.

On the 11th of March 2011, Japan was hit by one of the most powerful earthquakes ever known to have hit the country. Following the earthquakes, large tsunamis devastated Japan's north-eastern coast, damaging or destroying nearly 40,000 buildings, leaving 20,000 dead. IsraAID's first team arrived on the ground 4 days after the tsunami, and distributed aid, cleaned houses, created child-friendly spaces, and rebuilt schools. During this period, IsraAID discovered a rapidly growing need for psycho-social and post-traumatic care, and has decided to launch the "Japan IsraAID Support Program (JISP)" in August 2013. Drawing on local and foreign knowledge, IsraAID and JISP have provided direct support to the victims and trained thousands of professionals and care providers in MHPSS, offering PTSD prevention, stress-management and leadership workshops. Founded in the aftermath of the great disaster in Tohoku, JISP now operates as one of the leading humanitarian organizations based in Japan's Tohoku Region where very few international NGOs activate.

YKIP is a foundation committed to improving the lives of marginalized communities in Bali by breaking the cycle of poverty through educational support and services. The targets of marginalized communities are: (1) children from economically disadvantaged families; (2) social groups who suffer from disaster; (3) orphans; and (3) physically disabled.

Denis Miki Foundation supports the development of underdeveloped communities and groups through empowerment, capacity building, education for sustainable development, talent promotion and wealth creation. Our mission is to reduce poverty by running community empowerment programs and solutions like the DMF Impact Hub and Efeti Ventures Inc. We support the development of underdeveloped communities and groups through capacity building, education for sustainable development, health, peacebuilding, leadership, creativity, wealth creation, policy advocacy and activism for peaceful and sustainable and communities. Our goals are to: 1. Inspire - Inspire youth and women toward social action, increasing both personal, national and international aspirations. 2. Equip - Equip youth and women with social and emotional skills - real world skills that unlock opportunities for future success. 3. Connect - Connect youth and women across diversity, creating valuable networks and building understanding. 4. Deploy - Bring youth and women into service and action for sustainable and innovative community development.

Action for Mothers and Children (AMC) has been at the forefront of efforts to improve maternal and child health in Kosovo since 2009. It was founded initially under the name 'Foundation for Healthy Mothers and Babies' with the support of Dr. James Strickler, Emeritus Co-Chair, Board of Directors of the International Rescue Committee and Emeritus Dean at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth University. Influential individuals from health, business, culture and economic sectors from Kosovo, U.S., and Diaspora (including among others Ardiana Bunjaku, Jehona Gjurgjeala, Rexhep Hoxha, Richard Lukaj, Bekim Ahmetaj, Ilirjana Bajraktari, George Little, Philip Sigwart, Ilir Hoxha and recently princess to be Elia Zaharia) joined the efforts to support the cause and grew the foundation into today's Action for Mothers and Children since 2013. Today's foundation is fully empowered and locally led by a devoted Board of Trustees and with the support from the Ministry of Health. AMC's Medical Advisory Committee comprises leading Kosovar medical professionals, and advises the Board of Trustees and staff on clinical, technical, policy, program and health system issues. AMC's goal to save the lives of children and mothers in Kosovo is realized through four program streams: 1) Education, 2) Supply, 3) Research, and 4) Advocacy. AMC has extensive experience in implementing similar projects funded by international agencies and foundations. AMC's long history of successful initiatives that address maternal and child health (MCH) issues, include the establishment of Women's Health Resource Centers in three cities, specifically in Prishtina, Mitrovica, and Ferizaj, Shterpce, and Kacanik totaling to five (5) WHRCs. These Centers have supported over 1,300 women since January 2015, educating them on their pregnancy, delivery and newborn care. The UCCK Women's Health Resource Center has direct access to women admitted to the hospital, either waiting to give birth or having recently given birth. This represents over 10,000 women each year from all over Kosovo, with approximately 50% from rural areas and those outside of Pristina (since UCCK is the country's only referral hospital). Of specific note, all women from Mitrovica come to UCCK for delivery since there is no local facility. Recognizing the value these Centers provide the local community, the Ministry of Health has stated it would like to see a Women's Health Resource Centers in each municipality. In response, AMC will seek to open further Centers, subject to funding, and will prioritize locations that have highly diverse and economically poor communities. Following the opening of Centers, AMC aims at building a system of continuous education and improvement of relations among patients and health care providers. In August 2016, AMC launched the online platform beba-ks, which is an online extension of the WHRCs, providing evidence based information on pregnancy, child care, difficulties encountered by new mothers and fathers, and many other important topics in three languages - Albanian, English, and Serbian. Additionally, AMC has been developing the new mobile app. which provides an easily accessible and user-friendly means for new mothers to access and obtain information on lectures schedules, read about various topics, and store information that is important during labor, i.e. contractions calculator. All activities are accompanied by continuous meetings of staff to share experiences, refresher trainings, as well as trainings for all new topics added to the classes' curricula. AMC works with national businesses (e.g. IPKO, Albi Group), international foundations (e.g. Americares, Direct Relief) and international corporations (e.g. Abbott Pharmaceuticals) to donate life-saving equipment to hospitals in Kosovo. AMC also works with international Universities and think-tanks (e.g. Dartmouth University, 700 for Science), global foundations (e.g. Solidar Suisse) and multilateral organizations (e.g. UNFPA, World Health Organization) on MCH research and advocacy programs. AMC is a registered not-for-profit organization (NGO) in Kosovo. Deloitte audits its financials annually. Our mission is: - To advocate vigorously for better healthcare for women and children throughout the Republic of Kosovo; - To study their health problems and health care systems that address these problems; - To develop programs and projects that will help to improve the health of women and children; - To accord high priority to those activities that will reduce Kosovo's relatively high maternal and infant mortality rates; - To collaborate with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders that have similar goals and objectives.
