Founded in 1976, the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) collects and preserves art and artifacts and, through exhibitions and programs, interprets the history and stories of African Americans and those of the African Diaspora. The Adler Planetarium is a private, not-for-profit cultural institution whose mission is to encourage public interest in astronomy, its history, and to engage and educate a diverse audience in the exciting quest to understand our evolving universe. As part of a new multi-phase visitor experience plan, in 2005 the Adler embarked on a transformation from a traditional planetarium into the world?s premier space science center.
