If you’ve ever wondered who the faces of Giving Kitchen clients are, I can tell you it’s your server, your cook, your barista – it’s me, Wesley, a bartender from New Orleans. In 2021, I was diagnosed with a mostly benign brain tumor and had surgery to have it removed. Fast forward a year, I needed a second surgery as the tumor was still there. After that surgery there were complications and I had to have a third, emergency brain surgery. I was out of work for many weeks, and I became very worried, especially because my wife and I were expecting our first child. Rent doesn’t stop when you have a financial hardship. I was concerned about our bills, but then I remembered Giving Kitchen and applied for financial assistance. I was awarded two months of rent and utilities. It was a godsend and saved us from being vulnerable. When you donate to Giving Kitchen, you’re helping people like me and my family and my little puppy and my baby.
