ROYAL OTTAWA FOUNDATION FOR MENTAL HEALTH

As the largest specialized or 'tertiary' centre east of Toronto our programs are aimed at treating people with complex and serious mental illnesses that are often resistant to conventional treatments. In addition to inpatient beds, the majority of these programs feature day treatment options and outreach activities for patients living in the community. Each and every one of us has a personal connection to mental illness given that one out of every five people in Canada is affected. They are our mothers, brothers, colleagues and friends – they are those we know and love and we want to ensure they receive the very best care when they need it. The need for support has never been greater -please donate as generously as you can today to help us make a difference.

Fighting Blindness Canada

Over the last 30 years, The Foundation Fighting Blindness has funded dozens of research discoveries to identify the causes of genetic forms of blindness. Today, these discoveries have helped bring scientists to this very exciting time in vision research. Today marks the first time that a treatment exists to prevent vision loss and restore some vision for those with an eye disease called 'wet' age-related macular degeneration (AMD) - and the first time human trials exist to reverse blindness in certain patients with retinitis pigmentosa (RP).

SERENITY RENEWAL FOR FAMILIES CORPORATION

Serenity Renewal for Families (SRF) was established in November 1983 as a centre where help and support could be provided to individuals, couples, children and families suffering from the harmful effects of addiction or from addictive behaviours. SRF's mission is to improve the quality of family life where addiction and addictive behaviours have affected healthy living and eroded family relationships. Programs are designed to deal with addictions as they affect all members and age groups within a family. SRF assists and counsels individuals from age five to seniors to prepare them for healthier and more productive personal, family and working lives. The number of people in our community who suffer from the effects of addiction is large and growing. For every person with an addiction four or more family members, friends or co-workers are also affected.

Shalem Society for Senior Citizens Care

Shalem Court: Exterior Restoration Project Over the last number of months, you no doubt have observed, heard, or, been part of the conversation pertaining to the repairs required to the exterior of the “Court” building due to moisture that seeped in behind the stucco and walls. The repairs started in late June. We expect the Project to take 5 - 6 months to complete however, because of “hidden damage” to the exterior walls behind the stucco, we will not know the final costs until after the completion of the repairs. At this time we estimate the total cost to come in at approximately $1,500,000, or $30,000 per suite. Your Shalem Board is now faced with the task in determining how to best finance the Project. Our Members and Residents are the central core to the Society. Families and government also benefit from a place that offers housing and community to 160 of its' Citizens.
