Our mission is to provide safe drinking water and hygienic sanitation to rural communities in Africa. By working in partnership with local organisations and communities, we empower people out of poverty; independently and sustainably. By having a strong working relationship with the communities in which we work, we listen to their requirements, provide them with tools, and engage them in the ongoing process. We ensure sustainability by running programmes alongside our projects, such as a Water Management Committee and a health education programme.

Seva Mandir's mission is to make real the idea of society consisting of free and equal citizens who are able to come together and solve the problems that affect them in their particular contexts. The commitment is to work for a paradigm of development and governance that is democratic and polyarchic. Seva Mandir seeks to institutionalise the idea that development and governance is not only to be left to the State and its formal bodies like the legislature and the bureaucracy, but that citizens and their associations should engage separately and jointly with the State. Empowerment - our approach means that everyone involved with Oxfam, from our staff and supporters to people living in poverty, should feel they can make change happen. Accountability - our purpose driven, results-focused approach means we take responsibility for our actions and hold ourselves accountable; we believe that others should also be held accountable for their actions. Inclusiveness - we are open to everyone and embrace diversity; we believe everyone has a contribution to make, regardless of visible and invisible differences.
