ONTARIO EARLY YEARS CENTRE CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES AND HALIBURTON COUNTY

Ontario Early Years Centres are located across the province with local agencies leading the programs for each riding so there is always a local flavour. Our Early Learning Centres are in Lindsay, Fenelon Falls, Minden and Haliburton village with two satellites we help support in Cannington and Millbrook. We also bring half-day early learning playspaces to villages such as Apsley, Bobcaygeon, Kinmount, Omemee, Wilberforce, and Pontypool - all over the riding. We are funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services for the Province of Ontario, Canada, and we are proud to be a United Way member agency. The riding of Haliburton Victoria Brock encompasses Haliburton County, City of Kawartha Lakes (formerly Victoria County), Brock Township (part of Durham Region) and two municipalities of Peterborough County (Millbrook-Cavan-North Monaghan and North Kawartha).

VOCM CARES

Raise funds for charitable causes involving the health, education and safety of the community at large. On an annual basis VOCM Cares donates more $200,000 to local charities in Newfoundland and Labrador. On an annual basis VOCM Cares supports community projects, such as the Happy Tree, Food Drives, Coats for Kids and public awareness campaigns.

WATERLOO-WELLINGTON SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FAIR

WWSEF plans and conducts the science and engineering fair serving senior elementary and secondary youth from Waterloo Region and Wellington and Dufferin counties. Up to 300 young researchers and innovators present projects to a panel of 100 expert judges. A complete project consists of an explanatory display, a log book and a written report. We provide awards in Engineering, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as three Best Written Report Awards and a Best Communicated Project Award. Several will advance to the Canada-Wide Science Fair. Our afternoon program develops leadership in environmental education and research. WWSEF is a community organization supported mainly by area businesses, service clubs, our local universities and college, individuals, parents and some school boards. About 150 volunteers are active in judging, chaperoning tours and presenting the program.

WESTERN COUNTIES REGIONAL LIBRARY CHARITABLE ASSOCIATION

The Western Counties Regional Library is a regional public library with 10 branches serving the counties of Digby, Shelburne and Yarmouth in southwestern Nova Scotia. Established in June 1969, the library has its headquarters at 405 Main Street in the Town of Yarmouth, the largest population centre of the three counties. The Western Counties Regional Library began with five staff in 1969 and has grown to 60 full- and part-time employees. Over the years, services were added such as bookmobiles (which were replaced by Library Express), visits to hospitals, seniors residences and schools and Library Express. All of the library branches offer free computer and wireless Internet access.

YARMOUTH HOSPITAL FOUNDATION

The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation is a registered charitable organization providing funding to enhance patient care at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Since its establishment in 1970, and through the generosity of the community, the Foundation has helped to fund a major building expansion and has invested more than $17 million in equipment and facilities at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. On average the Foundation purchases more than $300,000 in patient-related equipment for the hospital each year. The Yarmouth Hospital Foundation is governed by a voluntary board of directors with representatives from the local community and the hospital. Funds are raised through major gift solicitation, community mail appeals, special events, memorial gifts and other fundraising activities.
