What We Do: We assist adults over the age of 18, improve their literacy skills: - Assessment to determine students' literacy needs - Student and tutor are matched based on the students’ needs - Train volunteer tutors following the guidelines of Laubach Literacy Ontario - Create a Learner Plan based on the students’ needs - One-to-one or small group instruction - Computer instruction in Basic Computer, Internet, E-mail, Word - Workplace and Workforce literacy training - Support for both students and tutors There is no charge for tutoring but there might be a small fee for materials. Our Program: We provide a flexible learning program that allows students to progress at their own pace in reaching their individual goals towards self-development; access to improved education and/or greater employment opportunities. The Education Foundation of Niagara raises funds to support over 36,000 District School Board of Niagara students. Funding is directed to schools or initiatives that are not eligible for ministry or board funding. We - help students in financial need - provide annual student awards and bursaries for post secondary education - support projects and initiatives in DSBN schools in areas of the arts; character education; healthy, active lifestyles; outdoor education and environmental stewardship; innovative practices - provide leading-edge resources to the community such as Prom Project Niagara - manage donor designated gifts in accordance with donor specifications.

Family Services of the North Shore is an accredited, not-for-profit, community-based organization. For sixty years, we have provided education, support, and counselling to heal and connect the North Shore community.The Agency serves the City of North Vancouver, District of North Vancouver, the District of West Vancouver, as well as the Village of Lions Bay, and Bowen Island. We also lead the provincial work in the prevention of eating disorders.Our annual budget is now close to 3.7 million of which one third or 1.3 million is fundraised. We actively work with our donors, funders, community partners and corporate donors to ensure the sustainability of effective and cost-efficient programs. Our vision is a connected community where people care for one another. We annually serve close to 7400 individuals and families through a broad range of social services to children, youth, adults, couples, and families from a diverse array of cultural and economic backgrounds.

DURHAM GIRLS’ CHOIR

Fostering an appreciation for the choral art in members and audiences alike, the Durham Girls’ Choir’s love of singing is evinced by their high level of achievement. Founded in 1972, the choir’s 40-year history is studded with honours earned at home and abroad. The choir has gained a reputation for high standards through participation in local, national and international music festivals. Challenged by a culturally diverse repertoire of treble choral music, the choir members develop their musical identity and personal identity in equal measure as they establish their place in their community and explore their relationship in the world. The choir comprises two separate groups, the Junior Choir and the Senior Choir, ranging in age from 8 – 21.
