Music Heals Charitable Foundation

We are a group of music enthusiasts and lovers who have come together to help raise awareness of the healing powers of music. The Music Heals Charitable Foundation supports a wide range of music therapy services to communities across Canada by providing ongoing funding for those agencies that develop and use music therapy. Music Heals is a not-for-profit society incorporated in British Columbia and is registered with Canada Revenue Agency as a charitable foundation. Music therapy is a technique of complementary medicine that uses music prescribed in a skilled manner by trained therapists. Programs are designed to help patients overcome physical, emotional, intellectual, and social challenges. Applications range from improving the well being of geriatric patients in nursing homes to lowering the stress level and pain of women in labor. Music therapy is used in schools, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, community centers, and even in the home.

Food4Kids Hamilton

Food4Kids provides backpacks of healthy food for kids with limited or no food during weekend periods. Packages of healthy foods are prepared off-site by volunteers and delivered to schools each Friday to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend. Each food package contains kid friendly, non-perishable and easy to prepare meals with maximum nutrient value. For many children, hunger is not an occasional missed meal... it is a way of life. Children are often helpless in controlling the food supply in their homes. Food4Kids ensures children lacking food are provided with nourishment vital to their physical, emotional, cognitive, social and academic success. The cost per backpack is $10.00 or $400 to feed a child for an entire school year.

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is the leader in wetland conservation. A registered charity, DUC partners with government, industry, non-profit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment. • DUC has 139,000 grassroots supporters across the country, including 6,200 volunteers. • DUC was established in 1938 by conservation-minded waterfowlers who recognized the importance of wetlands. DUC is part of a larger Ducks Unlimited family, which includes Ducks Unlimited in the United States, Mexico and New Zealand.

BGC Ottawa

The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa (BGCO) has served the Ottawa community since 1923, reaching out to 4,500 children and youth each year through after-school, weekend and summer programs that build self-esteem and help to develop stronger social skills. We utilize an integrated model of age-appropriate social, recreational and academic activities that include proven strategies for building positive relationships, mentoring, conflict resolution, skill development and employment training. These programs are developed in collaboration with families, local schools and other community partners to create comprehensive healthy living opportunities for children and youth.

OWL (Orphaned Wildlife) Rehabilitation Society

OWL became a registered non-profit society in January 1985. We operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, on an “on-call” basis. We are open every Saturday and Sunday between 10 am and 3 pm during the winter months. Over the summer, volunteers have the chance to apply for a grant working at OWL. We are open for tours 7 days a week during the summer months. OWL offers education classes, both on– and off-site. We have over 25 ‘Front Education’ residents who stay on-site and help educate any tours our classes that visit OWL. We also have over 10 ’Side Education’ residents who visit schools, community centers, and libraries throughout the year, who also help educate the public. We are always looking for new volunteers to help with fundraising events. We are proud of our record in the field of raptor rehabilitation, and we are anxious to continue our work and to meet the ever-increasing demands on both our facilities and our dedicated volunteers.
