More Than a Roof Mennonite Housing Society was founded by Mennonite Central Committee in 1984 to develop housing-based solutions for people struggling with poverty, poor health and other difficult circumstances. The society’s “More Than a Roof” value-added philosophy aims to build supportive communities where people can heal and create positive change. In partnership with CMHC, their first community in 1986 was Charleswood Court, a 26 unit mixed income, courtyard community for families and singles. They have grown to ten communities since then. They manage six family communities across the province, mental health housing in North Vancouver and three buildings for singles in Yaletown.

Pathways to Education Canada is a charitable organization that helps youth in low-income communities graduate from high school and successfully transition into post-secondary education or training. Pathways to Education addresses systemic barriers to education by providing leadership, expertise and a community-based program proven to lower dropout rates. Founded in 2001, Pathways operates in 12 communities across Canada, with programs in Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Manitoba.

Our goals are to eradicate youth suicide, to help at-risk youth, and to raise awareness and build on the science and the discussion. We help achieve this through our programs including a unique and proven focus on how exercise can help combat mental illness. Our programs cover three broad areas: 1. Partner Delivered Programs: This Group includes our flagship program, the Team Unbreakable Youth Running Therapy Program which is based upon the science linking the benefits of exercise to mental health. It provides at risk youth with a positive experience and tools to help address the issues they face. 2. Awareness and Advocacy: These programs help raise awareness, reduce stigma, provide useful information and encourage dialogue 3. Youth Outreach: Includes our high school speaking program which provides uplifting and encouraging messages, helping reduce the misconceptions and stigma. The Victoria Brain Injury Society gives survivors and their loved ones that which the medical professional cannot: long term support through the many steps, both backward and forward, of life after brain injury. From those just released from hospital, to those who have lived with their injuries for decades, survivors consistently express gratitude and relief once they’ve walked through the Society’s doors. Finally , people who “get it”! We offer that which society in general does not: a safe place to interact with people who understand. Issues like poor memory, short tempers, inappropriate behaviors, difficulty speaking and disorientation are accepted; coping strategies are shared.

Feed the Need in Durham distributes food to 46 emergency food providers (food banks, food pantries, meal programs & shelters) across seven municipalities in Durham Region. We supply food to over 30,000 low income people - 38% of whom are children. In 2012, we expect to distribute over 3,000,000 lbs of food. We acquire much of our food from distribution centres for supermarkets. As the food distribution hub for Durham, we have a walk-in cooler and freezer as well as two trucks (one is refrigerated). We supply our members with fresh produce and frozen food that individual food banks do not have the capacity to store or handle. We also supply much-needed non-food items such as toiletries, household paper products, soap, detergent, hand lotion, etc. When we are low on an item, we buy food through our membership in Food Banks Canada and the Ontario Association of Food Banks. We take advantage of very good price breaks and can buy $4 worth of food for every $1 raised through donations.

SALI's Farm is a safe haven for at-risk children and rescued animals to bond, learn, and heal with one another. SALI's Farm utilizes animal-assisted and horticultural activities that help abused and neglected children heal emotionally from trauma. Abused and neglected animals are given a permanent home. Our goal is to help children and animals heal and help break the cycle of violence. SALI's Guardian Program provides for the needs of companion animals of women & children fleeing violence, isolated seniors, and people living in poverty and on the street. SALI believes that all members of our community deserve the love and support of pets, especially our most vulnerable. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life for our two-legged and four-legged community members.

The Sharing Place is a compassionate ministry of the Church of the Nazarene in the Junction neighbourhood of Toronto. We are open year-round on Thursday mornings and evenings, providing hot meals, groceries, clothing, counseling, friendship, and hope. We are an independent food and clothing bank that receives no government funding. Our support comes from individuals, businesses, and churches. Tree Canada is a not-for-profit charitable organization established to encourage Canadians to plant and care for trees in urban and rural environments. A winner of the Canadian Environmental Award (2007), Tree Canada engages Canadian companies, government agencies and individuals to support the planting of trees, the greening of schoolyards, and other efforts to sensitize Canadians to the benefits of planting and maintaining trees. To date, more than 79 million trees have been planted, more than 530 schoolyards have been greened, and Tree Canada has organized 10 national urban forest conferences. Our primary goal is to work with families to promote the health and development of children age six and under. We do this by providing a community-based program that is built on the needs identified by the families we serve. We are currently running programs such as parenting groups, prenatal information, life skills, community kitchens, breastfeeding support, home visiting and child development. We currently have two Family Resource Centres in Thunder Bay. We have been in operation since 1995 and received our charitable designation in April of 1998.

Out of a restored Victorian house, The Gatehouse provides support services for people whose lives have been affected by childhood abuse. We offer a safe place for children to disclose abuse to police, as well as services that address the needs of adult survivors of abuse. Our programs provide a unique service response intended to reduce trauma in the aftermath of abuse and are based on referral and advocacy support within the larger social service system. Our goal is to create a seamless continuum of support services around victims and their non-perpetrating family members. Our unique services include: - A neutral investigation site with a state-of-the-art recording facility for child abuse investigators - 24 hr. Police Accessibility - 'Response to a Family Crisis' support program for children and their families - An Adult Support Network - A Mentor Training Program - Short-term consultation and referral counselling

Dress for Success Vancouver is a registered Canadian charity which strives to promote the economic independence of financially disadvantaged women throughout the Greater Vancouver.
