In 1974, a group of independent dancers joined together to create and perform new choreography -- to push the boundaries of creation. It has now been three decades, and Dancemakers remains on the leading edge of contemporary dance in Canada. Under the artistic direction of Serge Bennathan from 1990 to 2006, the company's reputation has continued to spread throughout Canada, the Americas and Europe. In August 2006, award-winning dancer/choreographer Michael Trent was invited to take the lead as the Company's and Centre's Artistic Director and Resident Choreographer. At the core of the Company's and the Centre's philosophy is the desire to promote and facilitate new creation, and professional and audience development activities that are rooted in contemporary aesthetics, cross-disciplinary dialogues and collaborative engagement.

Our service is in Danish the first and third Sunday of each month. We use English on the remaining Sundays and all major holidays. The service is usually at 11:00 Sunday morning.

Formed in 1984, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks (DJD) is one of a mere handful of professional full-time companies worldwide dedicated to jazz dance and music. DJD shows incorporate live jazz music whenever possible and attract over 25,000 people in Calgary annually. DJD employs 7–14 full-time dancers and has toured across Canada, to Chicago, Japan, Turks & Caicos, and Cuba. DJD has enriched the lives of over 260,000 students through our many Arts in Education programs including bursaries for children from low-income families, school touring and residencies. Our School has over 1,000 students ages 2-82 enrolled in recreational and pre-professional classes. DJD has a solid record of fiscal responsibility and sustainability. The company has operated in the black since 1996. Our annual operating budget has grown from $425,000 in 1986 to our current level of $2 million. DJD’s operations are financed through earned revenues (49%), fundraising (34%) and government grants (17%).

Farm Radio International is a Canadian charity that has been working since 1979 to harness the power of radio to meet the needs of small-scale farmers. We work with more than 500 radio partners located in 38 African countries to fight poverty and food insecurity. With the benefit of FRI resources and training, our broadcasting partners deliver practical, relevant, and timely information to tens of millions of farmers. We also work with a range of partners to implement radio projects that address specific development challenges and community needs. In 2012, FRI received the Innovation Challenge Award from the Rockefeller Foundation in recognition of our work using radio in combination with modern ICTs to improve livelihoods and change lives.

If you were asked to name two great leaders of Canadian Socialism, it is likely that Tommy Douglas and M.J. Coldwell would come to mind. Their life-long contributions to social democracy in Canada and around the globe are well celebrated. One dream they shared was to create a Canadian equivalent to Britain's Fabian Society, an independent left-wing group unobligated to any other organization or political party. In 1971 this dream became a reality with the establishment of the Douglas-Coldwell Foundation with Tommy Douglas as it's founding President. In the words of Tommy Douglas, the Foundation would be "a gadfly to provoke discussion…to keep the movements on the left-whether the co-operative movement, the trade union movement or the political movement- from getting in a rut."

Douglas College Foundation was incorporated in 1985 with a principal mandate to raise money for student aid. Through the generosity and support of our donors, the Foundation assists up to 2,000 students annually through bursaries, awards and scholarships. By removing financial barriers, the Foundation is able to help students reach their educational goals.

The Dundas Valley Orchestra is a community orchestra comprised of talented amateur musicians of all ages. Each season we perform two public concerts and at least four concerts at long term care facilities and retirement residences. These concerts help fulfill our mandate to bring music to our community. Our repertoire is varied, ranging from familiar symphonies to folk music to music from operas, Broadway and Hollywood.

DVSA is an independent, not-for-profit school that has been providing visual art education to the Hamilton-Wentworth region for over 45 years. The school has a significant influence on the cultural development of the region and plays a vital role in the education of the community. As a leading art school, DVSA is well known for its ability to provide high quality art education at an accessible and affordable level. The school provides visual art instruction for people ranging from pre-school to senior citizens. Based in Victoria BC, the Early Music Society of the Islands (EMSI) is one of North America's most active and successful early music societies. It was founded in 1985 to promote interest in historically-informed performances of music composed before 1800. EMSI presents annual concert seasons of music from the middle ages to the early classical period. Its concert home is the beautiful Alix Goolden Hall. All concerts feature internationally acclaimed period instrument ensembles: Hesperion, Baltimore Consort, Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet, Ton Koopman, Nancy Argenta and Daniel Taylor are among the notable artists the Society has presented. EMSI offers an early music bursary, arranges master classes with visiting artists, helps local musicians promote their concerts, and makes its harpsichord available for community early music concerts. It is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization.
