OWL became a registered non-profit society in January 1985. We operate 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, on an “on-call” basis. We are open every Saturday and Sunday between 10 am and 3 pm during the winter months. Over the summer, volunteers have the chance to apply for a grant working at OWL. We are open for tours 7 days a week during the summer months. OWL offers education classes, both on– and off-site. We have over 25 ‘Front Education’ residents who stay on-site and help educate any tours our classes that visit OWL. We also have over 10 ’Side Education’ residents who visit schools, community centers, and libraries throughout the year, who also help educate the public. We are always looking for new volunteers to help with fundraising events. We are proud of our record in the field of raptor rehabilitation, and we are anxious to continue our work and to meet the ever-increasing demands on both our facilities and our dedicated volunteers.

The Calgary Humane Society is known throughout the country for the outstanding and innovative programs and services we have provided to the animals and the community for over 80 years. At the Calgary Humane Society we help close to 10,000 animals each year. These animals have become homeless, unwanted, abused or neglected, and depend on the Calgary Humane Society for shelter, veterinary care, placement and protection.

The BC SPCA is a provincial non-profit organization funded primarily by public donations. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and to promote the welfare of animals through a wide range of services, including cruelty investigations, emergency rescue and treatment, sheltering and adoption of homeless and abused animals, humane education, advocacy, farm animal welfare, spay/neuter programs, and wildlife rescue and rehabilitation. Lions Foundation of Canada operates Dog Guides Canada, a national school which trains and provides Dog Guides at no cost to Canadians with visual, hearing or other physical or medical disabilities. The Dog Guide programs are Canine Vision Canada, Hearing Ear, Special Skills,Seizure Response and Autism Assistance Dog Guides.

AARCS is a network of individuals and families concerned about the welfare of abandoned, abused and surrendered animals in the province of Alberta. Our volunteers range in age from young children to seniors and all are animal-lovers who are looking to make a difference. In addition to rescuing and rehoming homeless animals, AARCS has many programs to help the public, including Free/Low Cost Spay and Neuter Program, Emergency Medical Care Program, Emergency Foster Care Program & Humane Education Program.

Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) is a registered charity that strives to help people and wildlife through two main avenues: 1) Wildlife Services - rescuing wildlife in distress, and providing care and medical treatment to sick, injured and orphaned wild animals with the goal of releasing recovered patients back into the wild; 2) Public Education - teaching people about wildlife and wildlife issues via the Wildlife Hotline, presentations and other educational venues. We admit over 4,500 animals for care and treatment each year, and respond to approximately 30,000 wildlife-related calls on our Wildlife Hotline annually. Since opening in 1993, we have treated more than 32,000 wild patients - representatives of more than 200 species of wildlife. Toronto Wildlife Centre works in cooperation with organizations and agencies at local, regional, national and international levels to ensure that the best possible help is available for wild animals and the people who live alongside them.

The Lakeland Humane Society was established to provide a safe haven for animals in the Lakeland area. A few of the services we provide to local communities include: Humane Education Promoting Responsible Pet Ownership Sheltering Homeless Companion Animals Adoption Services Student Co-op Programs Volunteer Programs We care for over 500 animals each year. All of the cats and dogs adopted from Lakeland Humane Society are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.

Bear mortality related to human conflicts is perhaps the largest single factor affecting long-term population viability. As human populations continue to extend into bear habitat throughout North America, either through residential development, recreational use or industrial use, bear human conflicts increase. Our organization aims to reduce human caused bear mortality and incidents of human-bear conflict. This is achieved through specialized training courses and innovative applied research. We are involved in a variety of initiatives that focus on reducing people’s interactions with bears while living, working and recreating in bear country. These include our unique Bearproof Garbage Bin Loaner Program, Bear Hazard Assessments, and Natural Attractant Management. Please see www.bearconflict.org for more information.
