WESTERN PURPLE MARTIN FOUNDATION

Western Purple Martin Foundation is currently working on the conservation of western Purple Martins in British Columbia where they are a Species At Risk and are only found around the Strait of Georgia. Much of the western Purple Martin natural nesting habitat was destroyed through land clearing activities and this bird species almost became locally extinct. Only 5 known breeding pairs remained in 1985. Through a successful nest box stewardship and recovery program a large number of caring volunteers have helped increase the BC Purple Martin population to our short-term goal of 800 pairs in 2012. The BC population continues to grow and reached ~950 pairs in 2013. Our long-term goal is to re-introduce BC Purple Martins back into remaining natural nesting habitat in open forest and near freshwater. Together we can build on almost 30 years of success, preserve species diversity and return martins to their natural nesting habitat.

WILDAID CANADA SOCIETY

Founded in late 2008, WildAid Canada has been active building partnerships with business, educators and government. WildAid has been working to formally integrate trade issues into wildlife programs of government. PSAs have carried our message to hundreds of thousands of Canadians through the media and broadcasters. We have also introduced landmark wildlife legislation. For 2011, the organization will implement a program in partnership with Canada’s largest school board reaching over 100,000 Ontario students. We will work to enact comprehensive trade bans on shark fining at both the provincial and federal level. We will continue to solicit and grow our network of partners for PSA distribution.

CAZA

Connecting Canadians to Nature – a simple phrase, but one which captures the essence of the role of Canada’s accredited zoos and aquariums in the early 21st century. Serving as a portal to the natural world of marvelous animals and their threatened habitat for an increasingly urbanized population is a vital role that is overwhelmingly endorsed by the members of the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums. It also marks a remarkable transformation in the mission of these unique institutions. As is the case with the leading international zoo and aquarium associations, CAZA and its members have moved on from the role of “animal keepers” to a progressive stance in the movement to preserve the world’s biodiversity.

DunRoamin' Stray and Rescue

We focus on three main aspects: Rescue: helping strays who are injured, neglected, sick, etc and have no one to care for them. We also help those who are too sick, injured or young to survive in a normal shelter setting; Treatment: providing food, medication, surgery, etc to all rescued animals as required. This includes helping them find foster and permanent homes and ensuring they have the life they deserve which is safe, secure and free of fear; and Education: we endeavour to set an inspiring example. We believe animals deserve our care and respect. Through our responsible guardianship, by ensuring they are spayed or neutered, by providing briefings, handouts, newspaper articles, etc, we encourage people to treat all animals with compassion and respect. Our main target group is the younger generation so that they will do better by animals, as hopefully we have improved upon their treatment through the advancements since our parents' and grandparents' generations.

Canadian Animal Task Force

We are a dedicated and compassionate team of veterinarians, animal health technicians and other volunteers that provides veterinary care for companion animals living on Alberta’s First Nations. The Task Force also offers educational programs for these communities. Our volunteer based group provides licenced, on-site clinics that can be held in community halls, school gyms, etc. We have the ability to set up a MASH type surgical unit to spay and neuter up to 370 animals over one weekend. We have also accepted up to 195 relinquished or stray dogs and cats at one clinic that are placed with rescue groups o be rehomed. All clinics are funded in whole or in part by the community. In 2013, the Task Force spayed or neutered a total of 1,766 animals. An additional 802 relinquished or stray dogs and cats were placed with our amazing partner rescue groups to be re-homed. We are guided by the communities we work with and believe that together we can create a better future for all.

New Hope Dog Rescue Inc.

All of the dogs who join New Hope Dog Rescue are partnered with loving and dedicated foster parents, who open their homes and hearts to these animals in need, and help provide the care they require until they can be matched with adoptive, permanent homes. Every dog receives proper medical care while with New Hope. This will range from the basics (vaccinations, deworming, microchip, spay/neuter), while others will require more extensive care (anything from dental cleaning/extractions, to corrective surgery, to treatment of skin conditions). We rely on donations and support from the community to allow us to cover these medical expenses and to carry out and continue our mission. We are always in need of adopters, foster homes, donors and volunteers. To learn more, visit our website at www.newhoperescue.org.
