Our mission at The Toronto Humane Society is to promote the humane care and protection of all animals and to prevent cruelty and suffering. The day-to-day operation of the THS involves the direct handling of lost, abandoned, unwanted and injured pets. In any given year, approximately 10,000 animals pass through the shelter, which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The injured receive veterinary care; abandoned animals are given a safe haven. Immature and injured animals are placed in foster care until they are strong enough to be placed for adoption. The Toronto Humane Society is supported solely by individual and corporate donations - we do not receive government funding of any kind.

Sandy Pines Wildlife Cntre, located in Napanee Ontario, is a licensed Wildlife rehabilitation centre covering an area from Toronto to Montreal and North to Ottawa. We take in all injured and orphaned animals and birds that are native to Ontario. Our facility is located on 60 acres of land with a hospital area and outdoor caging an flight aviaries. We hire staff in the summer but the centre is staffed by volunteers throughout the year. We are open 24/7 for emergencies and phone calls.

The Charlotte County SPCA is a small group comprised entirely of volunteers. We work hard to find homes for unwanted, abandoned and stray animals in our little corner of New Brunswick. We receive no government or other types of funding, and run solely on donations and fundraising we do ourselves.

The Cat Action Team (CAT) is based on Prince Edward Island. It is managed and operated by a dedicated team of volunteers. CAT was incorporated in April 2001 with the primary objective of implementing a program of trapping, neutering and releasing (TNR) feral, stray and barn cats on PEI. As of December 2009, close to 6,000 cats have participated in our TNR program. After surgery the cats are released back into one of over 500 colonies, where they are housed in existing buildings or in shelters built and maintained by CAT volunteers. Here the the cats receive food and when necessary, additional medical treatment.

The Ferret Rescue & Education Society (FRES) is a non-profit, charitable organization that was started by a small group of devoted ferret owners in the Calgary area who recognized the need for a locally based rescue dedicated to ferrets. Our committed volunteers assist FRES in their goal to find permanent homes for all of the ferrets surrendered to us. They also provide shelter, basic needs, veterinary care, and if necessary, rehabilitation for all abused, unwanted, and abandoned ferrets regardless of their health status. With the rapid rise in the popularity of ferrets as pets, there is a great need for public education. While ferrets make wonderful pets, it is important that those who select them, as well as those in contact with them, have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding ferrets care. The main focus of the Lethbridge PAW Society is the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of adult cats. Upon intake, any known medical needs are attended to including spaying and neutering. Foster families provide excellent care and closely observe their temporary guests. The more we learn about our adoption cats through the eyes of our foster families, the better able we are to match them with appropriate families. Special attention is paid to educating potential adopters about life-time commitment to their pets. The PAW Society is committed to providing kennel-free environments. The emotional well being of PAW's adoption cats is as important as their physical well being.

The Northern Lights Wildlife Society provides injured and/or orphaned wildlife with a temporary safe heaven, before releasing them back to their natural habitat. The Shelter accepts animal’s province wide and works in close conjunction with other shelters. We specialize in carnivores (mainly bears) and ungulates (moose & deer) but accepts all mammals and birds. Birds typically are forwarded to other shelters that specialize in their care. The Society is actively involved in a number of research projects and is also active in public education about peaceful co-existence with wildlife. In 2007 NLWS started the first official Grizzly Rehab program in the world in cooperation with the BC Government. A total of 8 grizzly cubs have been rehabilitated so far and are being monitored via GPS collars. Currently 29 black bear cubs and 3 grizzlies are in our care and funding to house and care for them are needed as well as funding for post release GPS monitoring collars.

Galapagos Conservancy Canada is a registered Canadian charity devoted to raising funds to support conservation and science in the Galapagos Islands.

All basset hounds who come into our care are spayed/neutered, provided with any necessary medical care and brought up to date on vaccinations. They are loved and cared for in a foster home where their personalities and individual needs are assessed. They are then placed into suitable adoptive homes.

The solid foundation that exists today within The Horse Connection Inc. began 15 years ago as a university project in Applied Counselling. Our Equine Alternative Learning Program developed out of the recognition of the importance and need to keep “at risk” youth engaged and in school. Using horses and the teaching of horsemanship as an instrumental tool to facilitate and to foster growth of unlimited life skills was how we envisioned responding to this need. The Horse Connection Inc. was founded and became a registered non-profit charitable organization in 2001, after which a 2-year pilot project was launched in 2002 with the Pembina Trails School Division. There is a strong consensus amongst the school division, schools, and the various governments social, health, youth and community services that have been involved in our program that there is a continuous need for the expansion of this unique type of school programming.

We are one of only 5 schools in Canada that trains guide dogs for the blind. We are the second organization in the country to train dogs specifically for children with autism. We also train service dogs for people with a variety of physical challenges such as cerebral palsy, spinal chord injuries and more. Unique to Dogs with Wings is our in home training program. Our mobility trainers travel to the client's home to establish routines of home, work and school. We are the only school that trains this way, all others have the client travel to the school and live in residence for up to 28 days.

VOKRA is a no-kill, non-profit, registered charity dedicated to the rescue of cats in the Lower Mainland. VOKRA does not have a shelter. Instead, we provide over 100 individual foster homes throughout the Lower Mainland. In a home environment, our cats are safe and receive lots of love and attention. VOKRA covers all costs and provides ongoing support to foster families. VOKRA's Trap-Neuter-Return team humanely traps feral cats and kittens. Pregnant feral mothers are cared for through birthing and weaning, at which time we spay the mother and socialize the kittens. If the mother cannot be tamed, she is returned to a location where volunteers ensure food and water are available daily, and the cat’s health can be monitored. We also neuter feral male cats, and either adopt them out or release them as appropriate, with the same care arrangements. VOKRA rescued over 1,420 felines in 2009. VOKRA has no paid staff.
